Delightfully Charming

After two years and two months, I said (a temporary) goodbye to all my sweet colleagues in the Faculty yesterday and I still don't know how I feel about it. The only thing I do know is that I'm going to miss seeing them everyday and working in an environment where it's commonplace for people to have super specific and endearing passions for things like soil and cheese cultures and flamingos and bees. It's simply been an amazing work family to have had the privilege of being a part of.

The First: Motel Flamingo by Madeline Merlo

I'll be honest, when that sun comes out and this song comes on there is little else I need to be happy. Maybe a drink and a beach chair. But that's pretty much it. I mean, I wouldn't turn down a kitten if you're offering. But other than that, I swear I'm set. And yes, I do find her references to burritos and Doritos delightfully charming.

The Second: Five More Minutes by Scotty McCreery

When I think back to summer nights as a kid, I can't help but remember all the times I'd yell for five more minutes. Like when my brother and I would play badminton at night and try to attract bats by hitting the birdie as high as we could. Or when my friend Kendra and I would spend hours laying on my driveway because the asphalt was still warm from the summer sun (we probably looked ridiculous) looking for shooting stars and deciphering constellations. Or when my mum would come by my room to tell me it was time to turn off the lights and I would desperately ask for more time to finish the chapter I was reading (and would inevitably keep on reading by moonlight even after the lights were turned off).

The Third and Final: Fix A Drink by Chris Janson

This video is kind of bordering on being too country for me, which is probably why I passed it up a few weeks ago. But then, as the story always goes, I started to hear it more and more and goodness gracious is it catchy. And so here we are, with me letting Chris Janson and all his famous country music friends have the pleasure of singing you into the long weekend.

Happy Canada Day Long Weekend - hope you have exciting, sun-filled, and patriotic plans lined up! Mine has quickly gone from a light to heavily packed (with fun things and people) weekend. Enjoy yourself, whatever you're up to!

Thanks for listening!

Are We Sure He's Not A Robot?

Hi! Hello! Howdy!

The long weekend is (almost) here!! I know you've been waiting all week for the long weekend a new hit of country in your life so I won't bother with some involved intro and just get right into the good stuff, cool?

The First: How I'll Always Be by Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw recently released his newest single so you just know we're going to talk about it.
I really don't understand how he always picks winners. Like, I can't remember the last time he put his name on something and I was like, "Nah imma pass this time, Timmy." Exhibit A: this song is from his album, Damn Country Music and the title track on it is also a gem. A gem that's just sitting on top of a pile of other, equally sparkly gems that Tim probably just refers to as his "discography."
It's not that I want him to start putting out bad stuff (obviously)... all I'm saying is that it would be nice to get a little reassurance that he's not some sort of music savvy robot who likes extra tight tshirts, you know? Is that too much to ask?

The Second: Home Sweet Home by The Lovelocks

I learned about The Lovelocks in the very obvious location that is my dental office.
I went to a new dentist this week and it's one of those fancypants ones that have the TVs on the ceiling, ya know? Anyways, I was handed a remote and headphones and after flipping through a few channels, I settled on CMT because, as you can probably guess, I just don't get enough country music in my life as it is; I really need to squeeze it in while I'm getting my mouth prodded at.
CMT was playing the music video for their new cover of Cyndi Lauper's, Time After Time. Normally I'd say, "Please don't mess with Lauper," but their harmonies actually make it killer. So naturally I went home and found this for your listening pleasure.

The Third and Final: Save A Little Sugar by Chris Janson

Despite the name and what we typically hear from Chris Janson, this is such a sweet, mellow song. Not that I have an issue with his more ridiculous and wonderful sing-a-longs, you know I love them. I just find the contrast of this one to be a breath of fresh air - with his own unique twist, of course.

What are your long weekend plans? Are you going to go to the beach? Are you going to watch some fireworks? Are you going to spend a whole day deep cleaning and organizing your already clean and organized apartment instead of frolicking in the sunshine because that's just what brings you peace and joy? Oh... no? Just me then. Enjoy yourself, whatever you get up to!

Thanks for listening!

July 31, 2015

You thought I forgot but GUESS WHAT? I didn’t.

I was just super tired, that’s all. Hence this post being a tad bit late. Who knew I could sleep for 13 hours straight? I sure didn’t. But now I’m perfectly poised to fully enjoy this long weekend before we all get back into the August rush* to get things ready for back to school. So let’s make the most of it, okay?

The First: Here Goes Everything by Petric

Let me tell you how many times I’ve had to explain this band name as “Metric but with a ‘P’” in this last week. I think four times. So not actually that many now that I think about it… Moving along, I think these Canadian boys are trying to be the next High Valley before High Valley even really has their day in the sun. Looking forward to how this Canadian battle plays out. Please note that I chose the acoustic version here because I just love a good acoustic performance.

The Second: Gonna by Blake Shelton

I can’t tell you how happy I am to usher in another Blake Shelton song right now. I was not a fan of his last single, Sangria, and so I’m really looking forward to hearing something different on the radio for a while. And this one is so good! Well done, Blake. Well done.

The Third and Final: Buy Me A Boat by Chris Janson

Okay. So this is the fifth song I’ve chosen for this last selection. Apparently I become very indecisive after an extended nap. But I’m going with Chris Janson and that’s the end of it! (< that statement was more for me than anyone else.) To me, Chris Janson is one of the funniest guys in country music. This is based purely on the fact that I find his dance moves wonderfully goofy paired with the fact that his guitar always looks too big for him and he doesn’t seem to care about any of it. Many CMFs ago I selected this song by Chris, which I think it supports my argument pretty well.

Have a fantastic long weekend! Mine will be filled with friends (including my close personal friend, TSwift), some beach time, and hopefully a patio or two.

Thanks for listening and I promise to be back in your inbox next Friday morning!
