Happy Friday The Thirteenth

So people. I've had a realization this week. Would you like to know what it is? Probably not, but since you're still reading I'm going to tell you anyways. I like to sing in my car. If you have been part of the CMF family for any period of time, you'll know that. And as you also probably know, that's never a tame singalong, specifically if I'm alone. Yesterday, Taylor Swift released her third (I think?) commercial for Apple Music and as much as I like to laugh along with Taylor as she makes a fool of herself, my realization is that if someone put a camera on my dashboard, the end result would likely be akin to these commercials.

I mostly tell you this because I thought the visual would be helpful to you (and also hey Apple, let me know if you want me to make you some commercials, at likely a cheaper rate than Taylor).

If it's not helpful, well then I'm sorry. Here's some country music to help dull the pain.


The First: Fix by Chris Lane

I'm intentionally not linking the official music video for this because it's outrageous. But this one with all the shots of him being (apparently) perpetually lost in deep thought is okay, I suppose. To be truthful, I've tried to avoid this song for months now, but it keeps following me (stalker). Mostly on my drives to and from work and so I give up. Here it is.


The Second: Fake ID by Big & Rich ft. Gretchen Wilson

So... maybe I was really inspired after rewatching the Footloose remake last summer. And maybe you can learn the choreography for this dance on the Youtube. And just maybe when my friends moved into a new place last summer and had no furniture we spent a few hours learning these super fast//super fly dance moves and it was simply put an excellent night. Maybe. ~You'll never know~

The Third and Final: Crazy Kinda Love by Jason Benoit

I hadn't realized that I never featured this song WHICH IS FINE because it means y'all get to enjoy it now, if you haven't already. I especially like the beat of this one. It's an easy one to groove to in the car on your commute home tonight. Or on the bus/with headphones on your bike, if you're a better, more environmentally conscious human than I am. My apologies to Mama Nature.


Hope you all get out and enjoy the sunshine this weekend! My advice to you is to find a patio/beach/backyard (preferably your own or that of someone you know)/park and relax.

Trucks and other clichés

So, I've been doing this for several years now and I would say that I have worked hard to two-step sidestep or at least downplay a lot of the classic country music clichés (unless I do so ironically, which is different and allowed). You know the ones I mean: tractors, dirt roads, boots, beer, cut-off jeans, hay/fields, ballgames/caps and of course, trucks. Basically anything and everything you can find in a Luke Bryan song these days.

But today, yours truly has faltered. I know, you're asking yourself: "But how could this be?!"
It's because I'm human, folks.
Don't hate the player. Hate the cliché-ridden game.


The First: Getaway Truck by Aaron Watson

How much fun is this song?! I love that it is upbeat, kind of funky and different in its melody, and kinda funny. I can't remember how I stumbled upon Aaron Watson, but my oh my am I happy about it. Basically I'm just super into this. Even if he is made up like a rodeo clown (weird).


The Second: Too Tennessee by Chris Lane

I've been super into Chris Lane lately. Something about that southern drawl pulls me in, you know? Anyways, that's basically the only reason I'm sharing this with you today. Well, that and I like the song, which is kind of what CMF is all about.

The Third and Final: By The Way by Lindsay Ell

This song is a bit more sassy and girly than my usual selections, but I was just really feeling it today. My apologies if you don't like it. But, as the internet says, I can't make everybody happy all the time. I'm not a jar of nutella.

The boys are back in town.

After a few weeks of featuring more ladies of country than usual, the boys are back in town. Also that's just a good song and I wanted an excuse to listen to it while also encouraging/tricking others to do the same.

The First: Kinda Dig The Feeling by The Railers

I like this band purely on the seemingly odd makeup of it. Three guys and a lady, which normally wouldn't be odd, but considering said lady is usually on backup vocals and does some instrumentals is different and I find it wonderful. Also, you might assume by the graphics for this single (above) that the guy who's in the front wearing the denim button-up flowing in the wind is the male lead vocalist. But he's not, of course. Because The Railers like to switch things up with their vocal arrangements and their photo shoots. (Since I know you're wondering, the long-haired man in the tan pants who's least seen in this shot is on lead vocals...) Anyways, I like them. Also here's a live version because you know how much I love live music.


The Second: Broken Windshield View by Chris Lane

I'm saddened about not including this song a few weeks ago because that seems like kind of a missed opportunity. Live and learn, I suppose. Also I guess if I tried to cram all songs that talked about living in the country into one post, it would wind up being inappropriately long. Chris Lane really does make it sound like this is the only way to see the world though, doesn't he? Perhaps we should all give a broken windshield a try?
I'm kidding. Broken windshields are dangereux. Please get that fixed immediately.


The Third and Final: Better in Boots by Tyler Farr

This fine gentleman has been doing really well with his recent singles, and this new one is no exception. This song reminds me that I don't own cowboy boots and I am simultaneously ashamed and heartbroken by it but also just kind of okay with it (I don't want to be a cliche, you know?)
