Daylight Savings and Ice Showers

My apartment had no hot water this morning. So I took an ice water shower. Pretty sure I didn't get out all the shampoo/conditioner. Needless to say, that was a simply lovely (and startling) start to my day. I hope the end of your week is off to a slightly warmer start.

The First: If You Left It Up To Me by RaeLynn

A) Love her natural twang. B) She's been around the country music scene since appearing on The Voice (I think??) and although I have enjoyed her stuff, I haven't loved her stuff. But this one I love. C) Love her outfit. I wish I could pull it off/I wish it was an appropriate thing to wear to work.

The Second: Fast by Luke Bryan

It's been a while since I've really loved a Luke Bryan song. But that time has come and could not have come faster (ha! Get it??). Super into this one. The chorus is great and catchy. It's not bro country. BUT it's still Luke Bryan.

Also, this happened and we need to talk about it because it's just so close to my dream of having all the Brett's and all the Young's together!

The Third and Final: When A Mama's Boy Meets A Daddy's Girl by Aaron Pritchett

Well this is just straight up sweet. And I do love Aaron Pritchett so it's a great combo. Plus the line "it's the promise of forever so I can kiss you all the time" reminds me of Sweet Home, Alabama which is my favourite Reese Witherspoon romcom (FYI). Also I'm like 88% confident that the guy who plays the new father who runs into the hospital room at the end of the video was on my softball team two years ago. Maybe even closer to 94%. Roughly.

Finally, a major shout out to Aaron for challenging those gender stereotypes. Thank you, Mr. Pritchett.

After the very full weekend that was last weekend's bachelorette festivities I plan to take this weekend to do nothing but laze around and do (you guessed it) do nothing. I can't wait. Hope you've got much more exciting or equally relaxing things planned for your Daylight Savings Sunday.

Thanks for listening!

Luke Loves Peanut Butter

The more you know, apparently.

The First: Everybody We Know Does by Chase Rice

Who knew that mud was such a fun medium to play in? Or that blowing up watermelons was... a thing? Or that people brought babies and tiny goats to backwoods tailgate parties? Apparently everybody Chase Rice knows does.

The Second: Goin' Goin' Gone by George Strait

We are so lucky that this man legend is still making new music, and so here is his latest. Enjoy it, savour it, learn it, sing it, love it. It's no Run, which will always be my favourite George Strait song, but it's a good one for a Friday nonetheless.

The Third and Final: I Do All My Dreamin' There by Luke Bryan

So Luke released a new album. And it's just a notch less bro country than the usual. So that's nice. He talks about peanut butter sandwiches in this one, so you know I had no choice but to share. (It's good beyond the peanut butter reference, in case you were wondering or perhaps are allergic to peanuts and/or sandwiches).

Sidenote: do we think Luke has ever seen a huckleberry bush? Because I really don't think that a "huckleberry limb" would be able to support the weight of any clothing without collapsing. They're feeble little wonders of nature.

I hope your Friday flies by! I'm hoping mine does so that I can go home and sleeeeeep. Je suis exhausted. On the plus side, Thanksgiving (my favourite!) is just a week away! Eek!

Thanks for listening!

Car rides and new music.

So, I spent way too much time in my car last weekend, which I usually hate. The one redeeming thing about it was that the radio DJ's song selection was on point and I actually heard a few new ones I didn't know about. So this week I'm sharing the product of my driving time with all of you.

My pain is your gain.

The First: Livin' The Dream by Drake White

Umm, who is Drake White and where has he been hiding? Great question. You may remember him from It Feels Good last year, a song that never fails to leave me wanting to jump on a Mississippi-bound plane and enjoy a crawfish boil.

The Second: Huntin', Fishin', Lovin' Everyday by Luke Bryan

Soooo I'm pretty sure that (beyond his cameo appearance in my Christmas music top ten last year) this is Luke's first CMF feature. Congratulations, Luke! Since he's one of the fathers of "Bro Country" I rarely hear a new Luke Bryan song and think "Yesss. I love this." It's just not really my jam. But right from the beginning of this song, I knew it was going to be different and that I loved it. In fact, I exclaimed "WHAT?! What is this?! Is this LUKE?!" when it first came on. I was alone in my car.

Totally unrelated thing to know about me: I am very animated and loud when I'm alone in my car. Sometimes other drivers give me weird looks. But the judgement of people I will likely never again cross paths with is a really small price to pay.

The Third and Final: Found by Dan Davidson

I love this. Love. It. You know why? You can clap along to it which, if you've been around for any amount of time, you know is a marker of a great song in my books.

I'm feeling generous this week and I also somehow went from no new music a few weeks ago to too many songs to share this week, so here is some country a capella for your sunny Friday: Ring of Fire covered by Home Free.

I anticipate you'll all have a great weekend since you now have this glorious infusion of new country music to enjoy. You're so welcome.

Thanks for listening!

My Top Ten Country Christmas Songs 2015

We're now well into December, so I figured it was the perfect time to share my favourite country Christmas songs with all of you.
Below is a mixture of both traditional and new songs that get me into the holiday spirit!

Please note: this is best enjoyed with some mulled wine and friends, preferably with the sparkling lights of a tree in the background of the instagram photo we both know you'll end up taking.

1. Run, Run, Rudolph by Luke Bryan

I rarely share Luke Bryan but I love this version of the song! Also, please enjoy his guitar strap lights.

2. Oklahoma Christmas by Blake Shelton (feat. Reba)

One time Blake sang this song with his Mom instead of Reba and it was just as wonderful as you would expect.

3. Go Tell It On The Mountain by Little Big Town

Possibly one of my favourite Christmas classics, sung by a group that can vocally do no wrong.

4. Winter Wonderland by Darius Rucker

Thank you, Hootie.

5. White Christmas by Home Free

You didn't even know you needed country a cappella in your life until now, did you? (Their entire Christmas album Full of Cheer is great, if you're super into them).

6. The Wood Shed Is Full by Dean Brody

Not a classic... yet.

7. Jingle Bell Rock by Rascal Flatts

Their twang rings louder than any of those jingle bells.

8. Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy by Brad Paisley

Can't beat a little Paisley around the holidays.

9. Merry Christmas Baby by Hunter Hayes

I just had to include the little musical gem that is Hunter Hayes.

10. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow by Lady Antebellum

But actually. I would like some snow this year, please.

And finally, Leroy the Redneck Reindeer as a bonus, mostly because that mullet will not be denied.

Thanks for listening and happy holidays!
